Fashioning the Future of Traditional Fabrics. Rechanneling Excess Inventory.

An artisan is breathing new life into the traditional craft of Banshu Ori with colorful and fluffy fabrics.
 Excess inventory of companies is being put back onto the market under a new business model.

Dream Weavers 

 This time, we introduce a company called, “Tamaki Niime”, which is making new kinds of products using traditional Banshu Ori fabrics. With a fluffy texture similar to cotton candy, the shawls made with the fabrics come in an almost infinite number of colors and are highly regarded by department stores and buyers for apparel retailers. By breathing new life into a shrinking indigenous industry, they’re expanding the possibilities for a textile town.

WORLD BUSINESS SATELLITE 

 Excess inventory is an issue stemming from overproduction and product returns. Companies may want to sell such products at a discount, but worried about price destruction, many end up simply disposing of them. According to some estimates, such leftover stock amounts to 22 trillion yen. We report on a new business model to put that inventory back onto the market.

 In 2011, a major accident occurred at the Fukushima Daichi Nuclear Power Plant that released radioactive particles into the atmosphere. We introduce the work of one physicist, Ryugo Hayano, who has continued to study and report the facts to support the residents of the region.
